Galaxy Quest: Visual Development

“Galaxy Quest” is a fantasy/space adventure concept idea I developed during my master’s final project. Visually It’s heavily inspired by the world building of Disney’s Planet Treasure mixed with the character design style of Kung Fu Panda.

My main goal was to develop a 2D story with stylized 3D elements. I created four 3D weapons (which were all modeled in #Zbrush, rendered in #Keyshot and then painted over to give them a proper stylized aesthetic with #photoshop), and four 2D characters for each weapon. Having 3D props in a 2D animated project helps the animators to work faster and better, by allowing them to focus more on animating the 2D characters because all the rest of the props and backgrounds are all 3D elements which can be rotated and put into any perspective without having to actually re-draw them every time for every shot.
